It was a memorable night at Marauder Stadium, and the Thunderbirds somehow walked away with an improbable tie and a point. It was a back and forth game that saw plenty of chances both ways, but it was Carlson who scored first late in the first half.
It looked like the game was over when the Marauders added an insurance goal with 8 minutes left, but the Thunderbirds showed a ton of heart and senior Islam Elsayed slotted home a rebound to cut the lead in half. Then, with less than 4 minutes remaining, freshman Alhassan Nassr sent in a corner kick that sophomore Kaid Altatah buried in the box to tie the game.
It was an incredible performance by the Thunderbirds. They’ll look to carry that momentum into a rivalry game with Allen Park next Wednesday.
